Installing Fusion95 NET LOGON

Overview

This add-on gives support for NET LOGON from Windows95, WfW and LAN MAN workstations. It is Microsoft policy that NET LOGON support for NT workstations can only be provided by NT servers.

An additional user's guide contains information about installation, configuration and operation of the NET LOGON server. The latest version of this manual is also available for download as a MS-WORD document.

When NET LOGON is used, information containing the user's network resources is retrieved from Fusion95 every time the PC logs on. This gives easier administration and gives the user the same network environment regardless of which network PC is being used. There is even support for execution of a user's own batch file at logon time.

Platform

The NET LOGON Add-On for Fusion95 is available for a full range of UNIX/AIX platforms. Make sure that you download the version that corresponds to your platform.

The NET LOGON Add-On requires that Fusion95 version 3.23 or later is installed on your UNIX/AIX platform. Make sure that Fusion95 is installed and working before you install this add-on.

Expand the download

Stop the existing Fusion95 using the command "/usr/fusion95/f95stop".

Change directory to "/tmp".

Copy the downloaded file to "/tmp/logon95.tar.Z".

Uncompress the file using the command "uncompress logon95.tar".

Extract the files from the archive using the command "tar -xvf logon95.tar".

Note: Motorola 88K SVR3.2

This operating system does not contain compress/uncompress. So instead the programs pack/unpack are used.

Copy the downloaded file to "/tmp/fusion95.tar.z".

Uncompress the file using the command "unpack fusion95.tar".

Install

Run the installation script "/tmp/usr/fusion95/install/logon".

Configure

Configure a shared resource called NETLOGON without a password. You may optionally make this a read-only resource. This usually points to "/usr/fusion95/netlogon".

Create a logon script in the NETLOGON catalog for each user (with the same name as the user and the extention of .BAT). This file will be executed every time a user performs a logon.

For example:

   NET USE D: \\FUSION\BJORN /YES
   NET USE E: \\FUSION\KEITH /YES
   NET USE F: \\SERVER\FAX /YES
   NET USE G: \\SERVER\USER /YES
   NET USE M: \\SERVER\MAIL /YES
   NET USE R: \\DEVELOPMENT\ROOT /YES
   NET USE W: \\WEBSERVER\HTML /YES
   NET USE X: \\SERVER\BIN /YES
